Editing (Premier Pro)

To construct and edit my music video I used a program called Adobe Premier Pro. This program contains lots of different editing techniques, that are in place to help you get the video to a high standard. Whilst editing I used a lot of different editing tools on the program which will all be listed below. I felt that the layout of Premier Pro made it very easy to use.

Above is a screen shot displaying the layout of Premier Pro. To the left is a section containing all of my imported video clips. This was a positive part of the layout as you could select which piece of footage you needed and drag it into the the big window on the left. If you then decide that it is the right piece of footage you then had to drag it down onto the timeline, this then enabled you to edit the piece of footage.

In the bottom left hand corner of the layout of Premier Pro you can see a small section of folders. This is where the effects for footage on the timeline can be found. These effects where easy to use, if for example you wanted to crop a piece of footage yo would find it in the effect folders and then drag the effect onto the designated piece of footage. The layout is very effective and overall makes the editing process easier.

Tools

Razor Tool
While editing I used a variation of tools. The tool I used the most would probably be the razor tool, this is the tool that you cut the footage with. You use this when you need to shorten a piece of footage, you can zoom in to make more precise trimmings. This tool is easy to use as you only have to click where you want it to cut and it cuts it for you. this toll was particularly useful when trying to get lip sync to the correct timing.

Zoom Tool
The zoom tool is very useful on this premier pro especially when cutting footage, you can use this tool in two different ways. The first is a magnifying glass which can be found on the tool bar to the right of the layout. The other is a bar with a triangle in the middle, you drag the triangle left for zooming out and right to zoom in.

Cursor Tool

The cursor tool allowed you to move pieces of footage around into different timelines, and it also allowed you to edit the footage in anyway you liked.

Shot List

Below is my shot list, this is a list of every camera shot I want to use when filming my video, it contains the shot type, the timing and what actually happened at that moment in time.

Analysis of CD Covers

Below there are three Album covers that I have chosen to analyse. I chose three album covers that where relative to my project, I also tried to pick album covers that were from different genres of music to get an idea of how different type of music could be the same or completely different in relation to the album layouts. I used a website called freecovers.net to find the album cover, also the back of the album and the CD that is on the inside. The three songs I chose were:

1. Flobots - Fighting with tools, I chose this song because it was the song I used in my music video analysis, therefore I knew what the song was about and would be able to see why some techniques had been used on the album cover and why others hadn't.

2. Eminem - Curtain Call, Like the above I chose this album because I had perviously analysed the music video for the song Stan which is on the album. I also have the album at home and am a fan of this album therefore analysing would be easier in my opinion as I have listened to all of the songs on the album and would have a better idea as to why some of the choices had been made in the design of the album cover.

3. Neil Diamond - The Millennium Collection, I selected this album because on this album is the track Sweet Caroline, Sweet Caroline is the track I will be using for my A2 music video. After the video is completed I will have to make my own album cover to go with it, I feel analysing Neil diamonds album will help in my design and creation of my own album.
